Troops working together for "Bridging"

May 5th, 2017 Daisy and Brownies gathered to teach and learn as a component of bridging to the next level of scouting. The focus was philanthropy in particular - there are many things that we want in life but very few things that we actually need.

Brownies put on a short play about homelessness and what it really means to need something. Clothing resources were reviewed as was emergency services for disaster.

As a healthcare professional involved with various philanthropist activities, Mrs. Siers spoke on the McKeesport foundation and what they were doing that day to raise money and awareness for diabetes and folks who can't afford their medications.
Mrs. Hoffman led the activity for the homeless shelter where the girls packed 25 lunches for gentleman staying at Pleasant Valley Shelter.

Girl Scout Troop 50758 Makes Toiletry Kits for the Family Promise Organization

During the Christmas season, Troop 50758 had a caroling session at Heisler's market, led by Scott Blasey. The troop collected money to help support the family promise organization.  They collected over $300!

This month, the girls used the money to purchase supplies to make toiletry kits for the family promise clients. The girls assembled a total of 30 kids (10 for men, 10 for women, and 10 for kids). Each kit contains a ton of supplies including shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, feminine supplies, Q-tips, Band-Aids, cotton balls, etc.  Each kit is packaged up in a 2 gallon Ziploc bag and put in a drawstring bag donated by Sun Chevrolet.

The toiletry kits will benefit the homeless clients supported by the Family Promise Organization.
