Become a Volunteer

As a volunteer, you’ll introduce girls to new experiences that show them they’re capable of more than they ever imagined.

You’ll be their cheerleader, guide, and mentor, helping them develop skills and confidence that will last a lifetime. Imagine the smiles, the excitement, the memories made—those are the moments you’ll share at Girl Scouts.

How to Volunteer

To become a volunteer, you will need to start the Volunteer Registration Process.

Within this process, you'll be required to:

  • Choose a volunteer role (see below for descriptions)
  • Purchase your GSUSA Adult Membership
  • Submit Criminal Background Checks
  • Attend any training applicable to volunteer role

Troop Volunteer Roles

- Troop Leader

Ready for a leadership role? Troop Leaders are memory makers: they lead and guide a group of girls through Girl Scouting, and they take the girls’ interests and abilities into consideration when planning out their fun. As girls get older, Troop Leaders guide more than lead, but continue to help girls develop skills and confidence that will last a lifetime.

- Troop Committee Volunteer

Want to work with girls but not quite ready for a leadership role? These volunteers play a big role in making the troop run smoothly. They're an extra set of eyes, ears and hands that allows the troop to safely explore the world around them. Need a driver for adventures big and small? Someone to chaperone a trip? Troop Committee Volunteers can do it all!

- Troop Cookie Manager

Ready to dive in but not available for a full year? Troop Cookie Managers handle all aspects of the Girl Scout Cookie Program at the troop level – from planning activities to entering data in our online system, and they work primarily from December through April. When it comes to cookies, these girls mean business!

- Troop MagNut Manager

Ready to dive in but not available for a full year? The MagNut fall program allows girls to earn funds early for their troop,so it needs an adult to manage all aspects – from planning activities to entering data in our online system. Troop MagNut Managers work primarily from September through December.

- Troop Treasurer

Skilled in money management? Girls work hard for their MagNut and Cookie Program proceeds and Troop Treasurers make sure the troop's finances are in line and used appropriately. They help the troop stay in compliance with GSWPA's policies and procedures for handling money, and they make sure finances are documented and reported.

- Helping Hands Network

New to Girl Scouts or looking for a flexible volunteer role? Helping Hands Network volunteers are screened and approved volunteers who can provide extra help to troops during meetings. While they cannot count toward the volunteer/girl ratio, drive girls or handle finances, the Helping Hands Network is a great first step for adults who want to be involved with a troop but choose their own time commitment
