Scoutmaster Basic Training

Scoutmaster Basic Training consists of two parts, indoor and outdoor. This is generally taught as a weekend class by the district or council, however, at Troop 15 we have found it hard to get adults to commit an extra weekend to this as Scouts is typically grabbing multiple weekends a month already. So the attached reference is included to serve two purposes. First, for those who can spare the time, here is an overview of the course which we hope will encourage people to enroll. And second, for those who cannot spare the time, please read through the handbook. That will help you understand what skills to cultivate. Taking the course is a good thing, but self study may be the best alternative for some of our volunteers.

NYLT

National Youth Leadership Training is a training program for youth members of the BSA and is taught at the council level. If your youth are interested in this course, a copy of the leader's syllabus is attached for their reference. Details for dates and costs can be found on the Lincoln Heritage website. Several of our district's troop leaders have run these classes, and it is highly recommended. Several troops and crews have unit policies to pay a portion of the fee. They do this because the kids who attend really do come back better leaders.
