- What are the requirements to join Cub Scouts?
- Lion Cubs (entering Kindergarten or age 6), Tiger Cubs (entering first grade or age
7), Wolf Cub Scouts (entering second grade or age 8), Bear Cub Scouts
(entering third grade or age 9), Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or
fifth grade, or age 10).
- What does Cub Scouting offer my son?
- Cub Scouting offers fun and challenging
activities that promote character development and physical fitness.
Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys
through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement.
Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also
learn honesty, bravery, and respect.
- How does participation in Cub Scouting affect participation in other activities?
- The Cub Scout program is designed to
compliment many other extracurricular activities. Typical time
commitment is two to three Den meetings and one Pack meeting per month. Boys who
participate in organized sports like football, baseball, basketball,
swimming, soccer, etc, or academic-based extracurricular activities
like music, art, science etc., can be recognized for these activities
though Cub Scout belt loops and pins which are worn on their uniform.
- What are the responsibilities of a parent?
-
- Provide help and support for the den and pack.
- Work with your son on advancement projects and activities.
- Attend pack meetings with your son and present his advancement awards to him at the pack meeting.
- Attend and assist with den outings.
- Attend Cub Scout Family campouts with your son.
- Do Cub Scouts go camping?
- Yes, but they ease into it. They may go
camping with a parent, or even with the entire family. More on Cub Scout
camping can be found at http://www.scouting.org/Home/CubScouts/CubScouts/ThingsToDo/camping.aspx
- What other activities are available to Cub Scouts and their families?
- Pack 936 is very active, providing a rich environment for boys and their families. Typical annual events include:
- Drillers Night
- Movie Night
- Pinewood Derby
- Blue & Gold Banquet
- Theme Night
- Campouts
- Summer Day Camp
- Community Service Activities
- and more!
- How much is it going to cost?
- The annual Pack 936 dues are $27 per
year. The Council registration cycle is Jan through Dec of each year.
Annual registrations
are paid in October of each year for the following calendar year. The
registration fee pays for the National registration fee, insurance at
all scouting events, and offsets cost of Adult Leader fees. Additional dues may be required depending on outcome of annual fundraising activity.
Other costs include uniforms and some
activity fees including those for the Day Camp. Youth members
participate in fund-raising activities (i.e. popcorn), which helps to
cover Den and Pack supplies, equipment, and other activities.
- Where can I buy uniforms, pack and den number patches?

- How often are the meetings?
- Cub Scouts usually meet in their Dens
two to three times each month, and a Pack meeting is held for all Cub
Scouts and their families once a month. Beyond that, it depends on the
Den and Pack: a Den may hold a special activity, such as a service
project or visit to a local museum in place of one of the weekly
meetings or in addition to the weekly meetings. Likewise, the Pack may
conduct a special event such as an outing, camp-out, or service activity
as an additional event, rather than a substitute for its monthly Pack
meeting.

- My son is involved in sports. Will he still be able to join Cub Scouts?
Sports is a very important
part of many boy's lives. Several of our scouts also play one or more
sports, are involved in school clubs, and/or are active in other church
or school activities. We understand that there will be occasional
schedule conflicts, this is not a problem.
You have a lot of fun events scheduled. Is Cub Scouts going to cost a lot as the year goes on?
At Pack 936, we aim to keep
the costs to the parents extremely low. Most Pack Meetings, Pack
Events, and Pack Conservation & Service Projects are
FREE! This includes all entertainment at the Pack
Meetings! The events that cost money are summer camp, the Blue &
Gold banquet, and any sporting game/museum overnighter. All
of the events that cost additional money are optional (though summer
camp is strongly recommended), and are available at a discounted rate to
Scouts and their families.
What if our family can't make it to all of your great events?
We plan a lot of
interesting and new events so that our families can take advantage of
many exciting opportunities at reduced cost or group rates. The families
will also get to experience these events with their friends in the Den
or Pack. We encourage you to attend all of our Pack meetings, but the
events are purely optional and available for those families that want to
and are able to attend. Don't feel that you have to attend all of these
events.
Is it going to be a problem if my son has a bedtime at 7:00 or 7:30pm on school nights?
Most parents of 1st or 2nd
graders have this same concern. Many Pack meetings are scheduled for Sunday afternoons so as not to interfere with bedtimes or church services. Den meetings however can be on weekday nights. Talk to your den leader
about the scheduling time of your den meetings if you still have
concerns.
How can I learn more?
- The best way to learn about what a Cub
Scout really does is to talk with a Cub Scout who is engaged in the
program. Alternatively, you can learn more about the Cub Scout program
by selecting "Contact Cubmaster" (above) and asking questions.
