Pack 835 news article
The Webleos of pack 835 did a service project at Glenwood Elementary School in Chapel Hill on Sunday, October 23, 2011. The scouts did the project to stop erosion as part of their citizenship badge, and to do good deeds. The project involved moving mulch using a wheelbarrow, shovels, and bins and rakes. We dumped the mulch on a hill and spread it out. The scouts were Oliver, Jonas, Michael, Raul, Zjolt, William and Daniel.

New River State Park: Pack Camping Trip
by Jonas Arthur Hattman
It was finally getting warmer as we walked to the campsite. It had been a long drive from Chapel Hill to New River State Park Wagoner Access. As we walked to the campsite, I shivered. It was getting warmer, but it was still horribly cold. We got to the group campsite, and we saw Karylee Laird, the Webelos den leader. We knew that we finally weren’t lost. We went back to the car to get the luggage. It took two wheelbarrow pushes to get there. We unloaded the wheelbarrow, and I helped my dad to set up the tent.
Later, the younger scouts went canoeing. I got jealous of them, until the Webelos went on a hike with a park ranger. The ranger taught us to look out for animal signs, such as scat, homes, tracks, and prints. He tricked us by eating “Alleghany Cat’s scat” and offering it out to everybody. Then he told us it was Baby Ruth, and I took a bite. At first I was disgusted by eating poop, but when he told us it was Baby Ruth, not so much anymore. We also saw signs of beavers. Trees were gnawed, and they were halfway done with a big tree with a trail marker!
This was only my second camping trip, but I had a lot of fun! I’m sure everybody did. This was the best camping trip so far for me!
From Webelos den 1
Webelos den 1 went on a campout at Jordan Lake on the weekend of October first through second. They did it for the newer scouts to get outdoorsman and they wanted to have fun.
The Webelos built a fire for outdoorsman. They built it up with paper and twigs and struck it with a match.
For a service project, the scouts cleaned up the trail. They threw sticks off the trail and picked up trash on the trail to the beach.
They gathered firewood in the forest together and helped each other carry big logs back to the campsite.
Around the fire, the scouts roasted marshmallows around the campfire. They used the marshmallows to make s’mores. The scouts told a story that one started and the others continued.
