Scoutmaster’s Message

"For over 100 years the Boy Scouts of America has been providing our society with leaders and men of character. Boys enter the program wide eyed and full of expectations of fun and adventure. And the program delivers. And, through the Aims and Methods of the Boy Scout program, the boys are challenged as members of a patrol, leaders of a patrol, and leaders in the troop. As a young scout they are taught not by adults in the troop, but by older, experienced scouts. It is not long before they themselves become teachers, instructing the younger scouts in the ways of a Boy Scout. This method has produced some of the greatest leaders of the 20th Century and continues to produce future leaders. The Boy Scouts of America truly produces men who are “Prepared for Life”.

As Scoutmaster, I have found it to be very fulfilling to watch these boys transition into fine young men of high morals, integrity, and character.  Leaders, who through their scouting experience learn to "lead from the front," and are prepared to face life’s challenges.

Since 1963, Troop 818 has been helping boys learn the tenets of leadership. The Troop is boy led, with adult leaders facilitating the program and providing guidance and advice. Many boys in the Jacksonville/Phoenix area have benefited from the positive Scouting experience gained in Troop 818. We are very proud of the fact that many of our scouts have earned the rank of Eagle from Troop 818! We expect that in the next 50 years there will be many more!  These achievements are a testimony to the hard work and dedication of our scouts and adult leaders, as well as the methods and traditions handed down over the past half century."
