A Message from the Scout Master

Welcome to Troop 700 - Las Vegas. Troop 700 is chartered by St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church and Part of the Las Vegas Area Council - Boy Scouts of America

Our troop is very well established, 2015 is our 25th year as a troop!  The troop is led by the fathers, mothers and families of the scouts in the troop along with many retired Eagle Scouts who are now adults and previous leaders that continue to volunteer their time.  The volunteer leaders devote a lot of their own personal time to the principles of scouting.  Troop 700 started at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church in May 1990.  Since then we have seen 76 scouts join our Eagles nest.  We have between 1 and 4 every year working on their projects and trying to attain that goal before their 18th birthday.

Troop 700 is a very active organization with a focus on fun, adventure, learning new things and striving to teach the boys how to live by the Scout oath and the Scout Law.

ARE YOU THINKING OF BECOMING A BOY SCOUT?

Boy Scouts is for any boy that has finished their arrow of light or completed the 5th grade up to 18 years of age. Scouts have many activities to enjoy, including camping, archery, learning scouting skills, backpacking, rifle/shotgun marksmanship, cycling, white-water rafting, computers, hiking, cooking, canoeing, and much more.

Troop 700 meets every Monday at St. Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church from 6:30pm-8pm. If you are interested in becoming a scout, you are welcome to show up and attend a meeting. Parents, we offer orientation and troop information a few times a year.  The next "Open House" for our Boy Scout troop is Monday October 26, 2015 at 6:30PM.

WHY DO WE WEAR UNIFORMS?
Boy Scout Uniforms Method

The Boy Scouts of America is a uniformed body. There are many reasons for this. One reason stands above all the rest. We wear the uniform because it is a means of identifying ourselves openly with the principles to which we are committed in character development, citizenship training, physical and mental fitness.

Scout uniforms are an important part of the Boy Scouts of America program and one of the methods of scouting. Each boy gets to be part of a group demonstrated by their uniform and each group has a personal sense of identity. The scout uniform is also a display case for a scout's individual accomplishments and recognition. We wear the uniform to associate ourselves with the principles to which we are committed - character development, citizenship training, and physical and mental fitness. The uniform is not intended to hide our individuality, but it is a way we give each other strength and support.

The Scouting movement is built on positive values. As we wear the uniform in cub scouts and boy scouts, we stand together and encourage each other to live by those principles. Scouts and adults alike should take pride in belonging to this program and wear the uniform correctly.

The official scout uniform consists of shirt, pants, belt, and socks. A neckerchief and hat. In reality, each unit may have different uniform expectations, with some expecting socks to hat while others expect just the shirt. Having all scouts consistently uniformed for meetings and outings makes for a much better adventure.

Wear your uniform proudly!
