The Hershey Girl Scout Community - 174

Welcome to our new service unit/Girl Scout community webpage!

Registered members of our Girl Scout Community (174 in Hershey) will need to sign in to the site for access!

Use the Welcome Email you were sent or contact your troop leader for instructions.

All registered girls' families can request a new Welcome Email using Contact our Service Unit link above.

All leaders can post events, news, and photos to the private part of this site.

This site contains the Hershey Girl Scout activities and sign up pages.

The private site has 9+ pages, so if you don't see a long list of pages to your left in the gray bar, you are not logged into the private site.

Cadette Troop Versus Bullying

One of our Cadette troops has just finished their Silver Award (which they earned, not won!) - see the article in our local newspaper:

Girl Scouts wants to ban the word "Bossy"

Boys who are assertive are called "natural leaders". Girls who are assertive are called "Bossy". No wonder fewer girls aspire to leadership positions despite the fact that they're smart and have leadership skills they learned in Girl Scouts.

It's time to get rid of this pejorative term. The attachment below tells leaders and parents some ways to help girls see leadership in a more positive light.

Thank You Juliette Low

Who started Girl Scouts in the US? Juliette Low!
Why? Because she went to England and met the Baden-Powells and thought that what they were doing was fantastic!

Happy Girl Scout Week!

10 Things You Didn't Know About Girl Scout Cookies

International Day of the Girl

October 11 is the UN’s International Day of the Girl.  Millions of girls face barriers to education that boys do not. And yet, when you educate a girl, you can break cycles of poverty in just one generation.

As well, the Nobel Peace Prize is being announced on this day.  Malala Yousafzai, 16 year old activist (featured at our Superwomen event) has been nominated for this year.

10x10 has given us access to one chapter of Girl Rising, the film we brought to Harrisburg in June. If you missed it then, go to 10x10act.org to look at the trailer, or the chapter about Suma from Nepal. I challenge you to watch this and not be motivated to make a difference. The link is below, but if it doesn't work, go to 10x10act.org.
